Heather qualified as a Chartered Secretary in 1991 and is an Associate Member of the Chartered Institute of Secretaries and Administrators (ICSA).

Heather has also successfully completed the ICSA Post Qualifying Certificate in Advanced Company Secretarial Practice at Distinction grade.

She is actively involved with the ICSA and acts as an Adviser to the ICSA on “spin-out” companies and early stage commercialisation.  She is also a member of the Company Secretaries Group.

Work experience

Heather has worked as a Chartered Secretary for 15 years and during this time has gained considerable experience in a variety of company secretarial and financial roles.  Most notably, she was Company Secretary and Financial Manager of Office Team Europe p.l.c. for 3 years and Group Company Secretary to The University of Manchester Intellectual Property Ltd (formerly Manchester Innovation Ltd) for 8 years.  At The University of Manchester Intellectual Property Ltd she established the new spin-out companies for The University of Manchester and provided ongoing  company secretarial support for those companies.

Optimal Management

Heather established Optimal Management Limited in 2002 in order to provide affordable company secretarial services to small and medium sized businesses.  The company is registered with the ICSA Public Practice Scheme which aims to provide recognition and credibility for Institute Members in Public Practice. The Scheme incorporates a system of quality control and regulation to support and protect members of the Scheme and to give assurance to potential clients.
